April Ross

April Ross has won more than one Olympic gold medal. Ross is among the few female beach volleyball players who be able to do so. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to claim her third Olympic medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. In addition, Ross is aiming to capture her first Olympic gold. At 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her last shot. Her confidence is high, however. Ross was mentioned by NBC Boston as saying that if you play your top, even if you play well we will get the gold. "I'm planning to test to have a bit of luck." Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her parents and her sister resided there. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. As a prep-athlete, she also played indoor track and volleyball. But she stood out at this level. As a time at the high school level as per her college biography she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. Her efforts were recognized by her being named 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. She also captured the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. While Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman was already a big-time athlete on the beach long before their pairing. She has won major events twice, with various partners. The other has become an icon in the world of volleyball. From 2007-2013 she played alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Together with Kessy, Ross won the World Championship in 2009 while competing in the international circuit. They eventually won an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings the legendary team which was the winners of the 2012 Olympics in London, beat their opponents to claim the gold. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. In 2016, the pair were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college athlete with the Trojans of USC prior to the start of her professional career. She played during high school and in some years before she hit the beach professionally. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was amazing. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the Year awards and was also an All-American. She was also an integral player for helping the Trojans reach it to the Final Four. After her sophomore year she was devastated by a personal tragedy, but managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. The last two years with the Trojans in the program they won victories by winning successive national titles. She was a fantastic volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the best female volleyball player at the college level.
